Project Overview

Regular check-ups can help find potential health issues before it becomes a problem. Early detection gives you the best chance at getting the right treatment quickly and avoiding complications.

Problem Statement

Many people only feel the need to do tests or check-ups when they feel sick and some others can't find the time to visit a lab or health center because of their tight schedule making them wait until they have fallen sick.

Research

The objective was to understand the unique challenges and possibilities of creating an app for the Nigerian market and to pinpoint the major problems that had to be solved in order to make an app that was both efficient and usable. To achieve this goal, we used user surveys, user interviews, and other quantitative and qualitative research techniques. To gain a thorough understanding of our target audience, we recruited a diverse group of people of various ages, socio-economic statuses, and educational backgrounds. Our research aimed to understand user needs and expectations for using a mobile app to access laboratory services in Nigeria.

After conducting our UX research, we identified several key insights that could inform the development of the app:
First, we discovered that when it comes to laboratory services, users place a high value on convenience and speed. Participants expressed a desire for an app that would enable them to easily schedule and manage appointments, receive test reminders, and quickly view test results. They also stressed the importance of clear communication throughout the process, including details on what to expect during the testing process.

Secondly, we discovered that the app should be designed with consideration for the Nigerian healthcare system. Participants requested that the app be integrated with their current healthcare providers and provide information specific to the Nigerian healthcare system. This could include information about nearby clinics or hospitals, as well as contact information for local healthcare providers.

Thirdly, we discovered that user experience is a critical factor in determining the app's success. Participants preferred an intuitive, user-friendly interface that is simple to navigate and understand. They also emphasized the significance of clear, concise language and visually appealing elements.

Overall, our research suggests that in order to design an effective health app for the Nigerian market, it must be integrated with the existing healthcare system. By incorporating these insights into the app's design, we would be able to create a tool that is accessible, user-friendly, and tailored to the specific needs of the Nigerian market.

Design

Entering Location - Users can choose between entering their location automatically or manually filling their location especially in situations where the user could be booking an appointment for someone other than themselves in a different location.

prototype for unboarding screensprototype for entering location

Selecting a lab - After location has been set, the user will be able to see labs close to them and choose from the list to see the tests they carry out. Users have the option to view the available labs either in map view or list view.

Prototype for selecting a lab

Book appointment at lab - When booking an appointment at the lab there are times already made available by the labs for the user to pick from, but at their chosen day.

Appointment history - Where the users will find their completed and upcoming appointments.

Notifications - The user will get notified on information regarding their appointments, tests etc.

prototype for appointment history and notifications

Help and support - We designed the help and support to answer frequently asked questions and to provide help to users' problems.

Product validation

From the feedback we got from testing the product with users and the team, we realized that users intending to book home service wanted to have the freedom of choosing a specific time suitable for them. We put that into consideration and designed the appointment for home service to that effect.

Key takeaway

  • The users are an important part of the design process, involving the users through out the design process will help understand their needs and help to reduce late changes to the final design when you wait till the design is finished before testing with the users.

  • It is mandatory for the users to make payment before completing their appointment when booking for home service. This provides some sort of security to the business in the event that the user cancels the appointment on arrival.
